When sending CMRRR, how do we insert the number at the top of the letter?

Forgive me if this is blatantly obvious and I am just not understanding, but I see examples of letters on the boards for something like a DV, and the letters always have the CMRRR# at the top....how do you know what the number is? Isn't it something that you don't get until you go to the post office?

You are correct.  It is the receipt number you get at the post office.  I never seal my letters till after I get that number.

Oh, so it is okay for us to just write it in at the top real quick at the post office? Or can we take the envelope with us after we get the CMRRR sticker on it?

Again, sorry. I must seem really stupid but I just want to make sure I understand.

Write it in at the post office. I am pretty sure they need to be mailed there.

You can get some blank forms at the post office to keep at home.

Get a couple handfuls from the post office to keep around

and you'll have them ready anytime you need to CMRRR

All answers are correct. You can either leave your envelope open and write it in. Or just stop by your PO and they should have CM labels and RRR labels out in the lobby.

When I was DV'ing, PFD'ing, etc I would keep a stack in my desk.

Then, I could type the number on the letter and I could have me letters completely ready to go, so all I had to do was hand them to the clerk and let them do their thing.
