Why do people say to opt out and delete old addresses from your credit report when disputing bills?

I am going to dispute some medical bills on my report. I was told that I should opt out and delete all old addresses from my credit report. Why is this? Does it make it harder for them to search for you without the old addresses in there?>>

Re: Why do people say

I don't know the answer to that, but would like to know as well.  Also, how does one go about doing this?

I have never been able to get old addresses and incorrect names, DOB info deleted. So if someone can tell me how, it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Why do people say to opt out and delete old addresses from your credit report?

The theory is that sometimes debts that you dispute (not yours of course or reporting incorrectly!) are harder to verify (again incorrectly verify) if your CRAs only list you current, correct name, and current, correct address.  Many times this is an electronic process that just confirms there is a debt with your name (any version on your CRA) and an address on your CRA (again, ANY address).  They are SUPPOSED to do more, but often dont.  SO, if that old, inaccurate information is not there, they cannot then verify incorrect information.
