Wrong Address Connected to Collection Account - Dispute or not?

Hello!

Okay! So, I have a collection on my Experian credit report from the State of Maryland CCU. I have paid them in full, and due to early exclusion, the account has already been removed from my TransUnion report and was never reported to Equifax, so Experian is the only hurdle here and account is set to be removed on November 10th of this year.

HOWEVER, the other day I received a SSN alert that my SSN was tied to a new address, so I checked the alert and didn't recognize it. A few days later, I looked at my Experian CR and noticed that the address is present on the report, so I go to dispute it. Now, when I attempt to dispute the address it says that I can't disute the address online because it was supplied to them by the State of Maryland Central Collections Unit. So, they provided a false address to the credit bureaus, which is technically inaccurate information. What I'm wondering is, does this give me the opportunity to have the entire account disputed and removed ASAP?

I reached out to State of Maryland back in February when I paid the debt in full, sending a goodwill letter after being denied a pay for delete, mentioning in the letter that they never sent me any correspondence regarding the debt after I moved (they sent me initial correspondence at the time they received the debt, but I moved soon after and never received anything else - and neither of those addresses are the bogus address that they put on my report, that one is random and I have no clue where they got it from) but they declined to oblige, stating that the debt was accurate and they have to comply with the reporting proceedures etc.

So, I'm wondering, is there a way for me to dispute this entire account with Experian? Also, is it even worth it? The account is set to fall off on November 10th, and I don't have any plans to apply for credit before then anyway. Any advice?

I would just leave it , it will fall off soon . You stated it was your debt and your paid it . If you dispute the only thing that will be removed is the address, the account is still accurate.

That's what I thought! Figured I'd ask anyway though just in case I was missing something. I'll just let it remain.

I don't think it's worth bothering

Hopefully the CCU hasn't or won't send anything with your personal info to that random unknown address. I would at least ask them to correct it in their internal systems. For curiosity did you Google Maps the address?

Thanks for this! Yeah, I searched the address on Google Maps when I saw it and it turns out that the address doesn't even exist. It's not even a real address, so idk if that factors in or not.
