age of account: 2 out of 3 aint bad

when i called amex to request that they update my account info on ex to reflect a new older date on one of my accounts (it's been updated at the other two bureaus) the csr said i would have to call the amex credit department.

the rep indicated that in order to take my request, the credit dept. would require me to know the amex tradline/ account number, an 18 digit or less number that appears to be fully X'ed out on my my fico report.  the number is apparently a variation of my amex account number, but not the same.  does anybody know how i could obtain this number from my my fico cr in order to reference it if i call the credit dept. or any suggestion for a work around to have amex update the acct. age info (that they've updated at eq and tu) w/ ex too?

Generally, AmEx reports a bogus account number to the CRA's, and so even if it weren't X'd out, it wouldn't be your real number. (Unless you somehow got lucky.) You'd do better to check the full EX report, although I don't think that even that one will have it.

Do you by any chance have an old statement lying around or saved on your computer, or possibly a card? About six months ago, a member dumped their junk drawer, and somewhere under the broken rubber bands and thumbtacks and gooey coins, they found their ancient but original card. --GL

Really? AmEx can use their coded version?
