amex is generous

I applied for delta sky miles and got a credit limit of $1000.00 After making my first month's payment, I requested a credit limit increase of $1000,00 and they gave it to me so now my credit limit is $2000.00. I could not believe it was that easy. Did I not ask for enough? When you guys request CLI's, how much do you specify with AMEX?

Re: amex is generous

I got declined for CLI because the letter says "my consumer reporting agency score is too low"

Oh well, I plan on CLI in December or so. Until then, I am making my payments on time.

Re: amex is generous

rifleman,

I am planning the same thing when I get mine...should be here soon so I would love to ask for say 5K.
I also applied back to back for the honors card...so not to get a 2nd pull on EX...they gave me a 7-14 days we will let you know(loser) leter. But other say that is normal..so I'm hoping it will be approved with at least a 5K limit.

application status page on amex website tells you whether or not you were approved for the card or not.

Re: amex is generous

yeah go for it if you think you got a shot--my EQ and EX scores are hovering around 650 now, but TU seems to still be closer to 620, so I'm sure if your number are anything like mine you could get a few thousand.

Pretty soon I'll be able to afford Kool-Aid AND Ramen noddles in the same month!

Congats!  I did my CLIs  in the 3-5k range.  But I have the scores and income to justify it.  The nice thing about AMEX is they do not pull hard inqs when requesting a CLI.  They ask your income and scan your payment history with them, thats it.  They also do review your CRs monthly, I always see soft inqs by them on my reports, usually EQ.  CLI makes us feel good, just be careful with the LUV button online.

Re: amex is generous

i read this thread and decided to see if my amex would give me a CLI since they don't do a hard inquiry when you request CLI.  my previous limit was $16800 (i rarely use this card...just keep it for emergencies), and i asked for a $3200 to make the CL a nice round $20k.  and here's the outcome:

Congratulations!
Your request to increase your line of credit to $20,000 has been approved and will be available for use within 15 minutes.

i have never been late with amex and i haven't had a balance on that card in a few months, so i guess they based the CLI approval on my good history with them (without having to pull a CR) and the income i entered.  not bad! Smiley Happy

Excellent!  It has been alleged time and time again that Amex, unlike a lot of other CCCs, hates revolvers.  That is cardholders who revolve, not 38 specials.
