brand new collection?

I pulled my new credit reports the other day and noticed that there is a new collection, and it says "Your most recent collection was 1 month ago." Looking at the details, it says that the DOLA is March 1, 2006. So my question is, is this on my report with the heft weight of a brand new collection, or is it reported as being over 2 years old, which would certainly take some of the sting out of it. Please let me know, I just want to know if this baddie needs to be my new number one priority or not. Thanks guys!

Re: brand new collection?

Look for the date reported. That will tell you if it is a new collection. I have one that DOLA was Nov 07 but reported Feb 08 as a new collection.

Re: brand new collection?

The date reported says March 1 2008. So the weight that the scoring system gives a collection is based on the date it is reported rather than the DOLA? That doesnt seem right...

Re: brand new collection?

That is the date it was put on your report. It does not matter that it is an older debt. It was first reported to the CRA in 08. The deletion date from your CR will go by the DOFD, no matter if it was 4 years ago. I do not know the legality of it. I just know that it happened in 2 instances to me. It took them forever to report it but, the info is correct as far as DOFD. And they showed as new collections.
