cant get my scores to go up!

i have had credit issues in the past around 6 years ago.  i do have a bankruptcy that is 8 yrs old and 3 unpaid collections 1 is 2 yrs old and 2 are over 5 yrs.  the reason i am posting is i cannot get my scores to go up.  i have had excellent payment history on 12 accounts, mortgage, vehicle, credit cards, personal loan, installment loans.  and my scores wont go above low 600's.  i have corrected all errors and paid off around 12,000 in debt.   i have 6 cc all with 10 to 20 dollar balances and 1500 to 5000 limits.  can anyone give me an idea what i can do to get it up higher?
thanks

Re: cant get my scores to go up!

Getting rid of those unpaid collections will help. I'd send a DV to each of those, while at the same time, I'd save to eventually pay them.

Read in these forums on how to approach these CAs.

I would suggest doing some spring cleaning on your credit report, DV all baddies listed and send some GW letters asking for paid collections to be deleted.

If you have unpaid collections, I would PFD them, since from what I'm reading it's not that many. Any paid collections I would GW see if they'd remove them. But you need to get rid of those collection accounts. GL.

Re: cant get my scores to go up!

You said you have 6 cc all with small balances. Make sure only one or two cc report a balance. That might help. I have heard this advice many times.

Re: cant get my scores to go up!

thanks for all the reply's, spring cleaning has already been done and it is accurate now.  I heard paying off the collections wont change.  the 6 cc i only have one with a significant balance of 692 of 5000.00 the rest all have 10 to 12 bucks.  i heard it wasn't good to have no balance on the cc's so i keep them at that.  The factors are saying short history (since 1998). i have been reading these forums for a while and learned a great deal of excellent advice, i started with a 537 and now im in the mid 600's which occured over 3 months, all i did was pay off and pay down it jumped quick.  unfortunately im out of money to keep paying down.  my debt to income i think is low but states its high,   problem is the amounts i owe i believe, not neccessarily the pymts.  any help greatly appreciated.

You only need 1 CC to report a balance-
Pay them all off- and rotate them.

Re: cant get my scores to go up!

FICO only takes into consideration Debt to Credit Limits.

I can only suggest that you keep making payments on time and only let 1 credit card report a balance. But if you can don't let any report a balance.

Keeping balances on cards every month to try and raise your FICO score is a waste of time and $. The entire idea with credit is to be debt free and FICO likes that. You have an excellent mix of credit just be patient (which I know is difficult!!)

In my experience I now report $0 balances on credit cards and only have an auto installment loan. In 2005 I was in the 500's now my median score is 761.

As Timothy said....you do not have to carry a bal on any cards!!  I have 10 cards   i carry a bal on 4 of them (paying them down)  The other 6 CC  I use once  every 4-6 months & PIF before they report....this keeps them current and Bal $0

As to you collections    what is the DOFD  DOLA and what is your SOL???

If past SOL    you can send DV  CMRRR (you are safe from lawsuits)     You can offer PFD

If within SOL   be ready to pay
