changing old address

Hi,

I'm 28 and I moved out of my mom's house two years ago and got an apartment.  I changed my address where I remembered to, but my credit report which I just pulled still show's my mom's address.  It doesn't show my new address anywhere.

American Express does still have my old address because I'm on paperless statements and the places I buy stuff online still have that old address as my billing address. It's just a hassle to change my address every imaginable place.  I've had the card for years and didn't update the address when I went to college with my school address, so I didn't think it was that big of a deal.  I also thought it might look bad to a creditor to have an address change? Should I change that at American Express and will it automatically add the new address to my credit report?

Or how do I do do this?

Re: changing old address

Yes, if you update your address to Amex, it will change on your credit report.

Because we move a lot, I use my parent's address as my official address.   Cleaner report, stable address, and I don't have to explain why I move every 6-12 months (work). If it comes up in topic with a lender/creditor/utility company/whoever, I just explain I travel a lot for work, so sometimes I need something overnighted, or I keep my permanent address in xx state, while I am temporarily living in xx state.

Just food for thought....if there's no harm in using mom's address, go for it.

*** what does your DL say?  Your current or your mom's?   They don't report, so no worries there, but creditors sometimes ask to see a copy of it and verify identity.   It's never been a problem for me.

Re: changing old address

Thanks IOBA.

There's no harm in using my mom's address, except I'm on a dating site which has a 'relyid' feature and that uses the address on your credit report to verify your first name and city with the site.  You only have to give the last 4 digits of your SSN, so I guess it's a soft pull.

It's an optional feature that only costs $6.

I'm chatting with a few women on there and don't want the relyid thing to change my location and freak them out.

Driver's license still says mom's address.  I have been meaning to change that, though...one of my friends did the same thing and all they do is give you a sticker, not a new license.  What a cheap state.  I suppose I could also leave it and just any time I need to verify my address, use a utility bill or something.

Re: changing old address

Egads - I would not want a credit pull to verify ID for anything!

It may be too late, but could you use your mom's address?  Sometimes people checking CR get lazy and enter information incorrectly or incompletely.   That ends up on your CR, but is usually easily deleted if you dispute it with the CR.

For simplicity sake, use one address and stick with it.

For courtesy reasons, ask mom if it's ok to keep her address as your permanent one.  If she says yes, use it for everything, including when applying for credit/loans, etc.
