collection account dates

I want to verify something. I have a dental collection on my credit report. The dentist visit was January 2006. It says on my credit report:

Balance: $492
Date Updated: 08/2007

Date placed for collection: 04/2006
Estimated date that this item will be removed: 02/2013

I have already tried a PFD to the CA, and am considering just paying them. If I pay them in full, will it still drop off in 02/2013? Or would it be 7 years from the date I pay it off? Also, is it safe to pay them by Visa or Cashier's Check only? I'd prefer to pay by Visa (if it's safe). Then I'd have a record of the transaction on my statement.

Re: collection account dates

the drop date won't change.  Personally, I would use a cashier's check --do you really want a CA having a CC number and expiration date and possibly even the CVV?

Re: collection account dates

So, if I'm concerned about what my credit score will be in September 2008 or so, and don't care much what it is in the meantime, it doesn't really matter if I pay it now or June 2008?

Or if I paid it now, in September would it be considered as a collection that was paid six months prior which would drop my fico less than if it was paid three months prior?

I hope that question makes sense.

Re: collection account dates

I understand paying the collection won't really change my score, so now that I think about it, I guess my question was kind of stupid. Verifying it would still drop off was the most important thing. Thanks!
