I have been trying to clean up a few old collection accounts to improve my scores for an upcoming home purchase. I have a six year old collection account for 180.00 that Comcast had tuned over. I argued for months years ago with Comcast as I had asked them to cut off the cable when I moved. No mail forwarding and a few months later I found the bill. The collection is on all three CRA's. I contacted the collection agency and offered to pay if they would remove the collection. They said that they would and would send a letter to me after the check clears but they refuse to send an email that suggests what they are agreeing to do. Does anyone know how to handle this or if this is a common practice? I can't understand why they would not send an email that states what they tell me on the phone if it would enable them to collect their money. Thanks for any help.
