credit locks vs freezes

I was wondering if the credit lock features offered by TU and EX are easier to lock & unlock frequently than an actual security freeze.

I was also curious if anyone has had difficulty getting it to work on their respective websites, or if it is a pretty easy feature.

Lastly, will the lock prevent prequalified mailers from being sent?

thanks!

Lock and freeze should in theory work the same. Freeze is legally mandated and provides you with more protection should something go wrong.

These days, freeze lifting and placing is super easy, unless you forget/lose your code.

Most websites allow you to reset password, but if you lose your code, you'll first need to prove your identity by providing documents such as DL, SS card etc. So, dont lose it

No true preapprovals because you cannot be SP'ed unless there is preexisting relationship with a lender. If it's a lender you already have product from, you may continue to get offers providing they have them for you. Also, prequals on websites will not work unless freeze/lock is lifted.

Tow of mine mine are currently unlocked because i forgot to lock  them after doing prequals in the name of science. EQ dangles free

Thank you for the reminder

Also, due to their website format changes, Experian is the only one left that requires a self-selected PIN.
