creditor remarks on credit file

i recently began disputing some items.  Capital One did not change my 3 (30) lates and informed me that they have placed a disagreement code with a resolution of dispute on my file and will report to all three bureaus.  Can they place remarks on my file without my consent.  Also TU remarks on accounts that I have disputed.  On my GMAC 2 (30) day lates on closed account they show information disputed by consumer.  Please help!!!!!!!!!!

Re: creditor remarks on credit file

Are you disputing the lates? If yes, they are required to inform the CRAs that you are disputing the account.  They are actually complying with the law in this case (no griping for that).

IMO disputing lates is always an iffy issue. Hard to prove, when they received payment and when it was posted.

That's why I'm trying to get into the habit of paying within a week of receiving cc statement.
