creditors and inquiries!!!!!

Do creditors have the ability to remove inquiries from credit report?  Dell did a hard inquiry when I requested an cli even though they had been doing soft inquires all year long.  I called and they said they would see if the hard inquiry could be removed.

Technically they should request to have the coding changed to a soft pull, not remove it entirely.
