disputing accounts that are not mine

I have an account on my credit report for an old cable bill from 04 that just popped up one day.  It was a collection account for credit management LP.  I called them and the name was very similar but the ss# was wrong.  I knew the person this beloned to. I was told by them to dispute it, which I did.  I recieved this it back today saying that it was verfied as accurate, what type of crap is this. Can anyone give me some advice on how to proceed. Thanks.

DV the collection CMRRR, do not speak with a CA on the phone, ever.

SmartCookie - Does MOV really work?   My experiences so far with the CRA's is that they generally ignore it or give it lip service, like "we verify with the creditor via electronic verification system,  blah blah blah....

Does CM RRR really make them answer it for real?  What has been  your personal experiences?

I would have to say you are correct-
BUT - you have legal rights after they refuse to verify.

A properly worded one will get more attention but oh yeah they tend to get blown off with the 'electronically verified' response.  Definitely a known issue with the CRAs.  But it's the precursor to an ITS letter.

CMRRR does not make them answer no, but it does document the attempt and date and if they don't accept the letter (literally marked as refused) that's a refusal to validate IMHO.

As for my personal experiences I have to say I've been lucky.  I don't tend to discuss it much since it's not the traditional approach.  I am not afraid to go head to head with a CA any time any place, recorded or not.  If it's mine I take care of it and if it's not, I'm fortunate enough to have a DH who is an attorney.  Must say they pay  a lot of attention when something is drafted from a legal office.

I disputed this again the same day it came back as verified. It was deleted two days later.  The next time I hadput down the person's name and said that the ss# do not match, which they didn't.  Thanks for all your help.

You're exactly right! What matters is you won! EX has been a thorn in my spine for a long time. I had to threaten them with a lawsuit before they would correct any inaccurate reporting. In the end I won too.
