If I dispute lates on some of my active accounts, will the credit reporting agency remove the accounts or remove the lates? I have legitimate reasons for 2 out of 4 accounts.
If you have legitimate reasons to dispute the late items appearing on your credit reports,
take up the issue with the creditor that is reporting these lates.
If this does not resolve the issue; then, there is little the CRA can do, because,
their allegiance; based strictly on a business relationship; is usually with the reporting entity.
Try to reach an agreement with the issuer who is repoting the lates or ask for goodwill to help resolve
the issues which are hindering you from achieving your goal.
Ok will do, thanks for your response. :-)
I would never dispute through a CRA. They have no real place in the dispute process. Cut them out of it entirely.
I would always dispute directly withe the OC under the new direct dispute process, FCRA 623(a)(8).
The CRA does not see the dispute. The investigation is done soley by the OC, and must be completed by them within 30-days,with the results then reported directly back to you within 5-days thereafter. If they find the disputed information to be inaccurte, they are required to then directly report its correction or deletion to the CRA.
The OC should request deletion of only the inaccurate information, but could request deletion of the entire account. This is not a determinaton made by the CRA.
They delete what they are told to delete by the OC.

if your disputes are with the original Creditors and pertain to billing errors use the "FCBA" laws http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre16.shtm
If the accounts are with collections agencies go the "FCRA" route thats been mentioned.
