dont understand

I disputed a an open account with verizon.They said it was a collection account. I Have had this phone for years. Anyways they deleted it. I told them i was a current customer.

So i check scorewatch today and it is down 12 pts.

Trying to make this go up no down!!

I dunno either. Scrutinize your report. What else has changed? Have you opened any new CC or something? Have you had a recent inquiry?

brammy, yes it was the oldest thing the equifax had listed. Actually the same for all three

There's your answer.  You just chopped your credit file age by however many years were between that collection and the next account opening.

Got it! It was a win/loose situation i guess. They deleted the collection yet cut my credit file age.

When you said the account dropped 12 points I figured it was an old collection not hurting your score as much as the age was helping it.  Weird huh?
