excited AND scared.....

Ok this is my first time posting here.....just found these boards Smiley Happy

I have been trying to improve my score for about a year.  Paying on time....watching my score .....it seems to take forever to go up.

I am only to 545 now....hoping to be at 620 by late summer.....hope.....hope...hope

I reviewed my latest credit report from EQ today and almost missed this!!
I have had three charged off cc's with Cap 1 from 2001
two to come off my report in May 08 & the third one in 2009

I found on my EQ report that the two that come off in May are gone today!!  Yeah!!!!!  I don't know how or why but it was a very nice suprise. Still on the other two reports but I'll take it::smileyhappy

so it does seem like it takes FOREVER for my score to go up just a few points.  I was hoping someone might have some suggestions on things I can do to help boost my score.

This is a snapshot of my history

(opened 2004)  credit card    800 limit     balance was 877  as of today $65.00 balance  never late

(opened 2006)  credit card  400 limit     balance was 511     as of today $40.00 balance   never late

student loan (open)   balance 19415.00   pay on time....was late in 2006 one payment

student loan (open)  balance 6010.00 never late

installment loan  balance $995 never late (opened in 2006)

credit card (closed) was past due 150 days in 2005 but not late since then.  Balance 154.00

credit card (closed) was transferred to ca    paid ca settlement    (will fall off my CR this month)

credit card (closed) paid settlement in 2005

two other credit card charge offs

3 collection accounts (medical) 2007

sent my first GW letter today...keeping my fingers crossed

So when I look at my report I see lots of negatives and trying to figure out if I can clear anything else.  Hoping my credit card payments will make a big difference since I just paid them down to almost nothing.

Do I have enough variety in my open accounts?   I have the two cc's, 2 student loans, and 1 installment account

Sorry this was so long.....I couldn't seem to stop Smiley Happy
Thanks for your help

Re: excited AND scared.....

Hi love2golf, welcome to the forum!Smiley Happy There's a wealth of information here for you, and many knowledgeable people here to help you get credit healthy.

You've taken the first steps of improving your scores by paying down your cc debt. Good for you! That's the quickest way to get some score jumps.

Before you start applying for more credit though, I'd suggest working on the other baddies first. GW letters are a good start. But you have 3 med collections that you can work on too. Please share with us the details?.....

How old are the med collections? How much? Have they been placed with a collection agency? In addition you need to find out who actually owns the account. Have the med collections actually been sold to a CA, or does hospital/dr. still own them?

I was successful in having 3 med collections deleted from my CR's by negotiating PFD's on all of them, with the OC last fall.

Let us know! Smiley Happy
