how collections are reported

I have a collection that should fall off in August.  Under the description it says "Paid Collection" but under the current status it says "120+ Days Late."  I paid the collection in 2002.  Is this reporting correctly and if not, is it worth disputing since it should fall off in a few months?

Re: how collections are reported

Is this collection with a CA...or the OC...if it's with a CA...it should not show any lates...any its really now worth disputing...in July dispute it..and see if they would remove it early...sometimes they delete if it due to fall off within a month....

What about CA's who purchase a debt and enter it as a tradeline with "collection" as the type of account? They will report as 120 days late--at least that is what I have seen.

Midland is notorious for that. I have disputed it and they will not change it.

CAs can report these types of lates in addition to a collection or a derog TL (account). As for the OP, I would just leave it be. I see very little to be gained by disputing a 120-day-late associated with a baddie this old.
