how do CA's get information?

I am curious how this works.

DH and I have a small business.  We had a Bellsouth acct that went into collections.  I DV'd the CA and they sent me all the paperwork.  I have been making payments each month.    I have been getting calls for about 2 months now from some other collection agency for this same acct.   I have not received anything in writing from them only messages on my phone.  This person states why she is calling and the balance on the acct.   The balance she list is the starting balance not what it is now.   I did call the CA that I have been working with and they stated they dont know who this is and have been crediting my payments and the balance is correct.   I called the OC and they gave me the same CA information that I have been working with and the correct balance.

So how do CA's get this information??  Actually their name sounds like an attorney office but they are not.   I have just been ignoring this person since I have gotten nothing in writing and OC and CA don't know who they are.

Just curious as to how they get information.
Thanks!

Re: how do CA's get information?

While I can't answer your question, unless they for some reason soft pulled your credit.

I just want to point out......this is a great example of why it is so important to DV before paying a CA!

Re: how do CA's get information?

Thanks sidewinder.

Actually this acct is not even listed on either of our credit reports.  It is listed only in our business name.   Makes you wonder how they get information.
