how far back to go?

How far back do I need to go to get bad marks removed?  I thought after 2 years on your report it dident really affect your scores anyway, I have 2 medical bills from 2004, I dident want to call or do anything to contact them because I thought it would"update" them... any advise?

Actually major delinquencies are considered minor after two years but that does not apply to collections.  This would be a good opportunity to ofer a pay for delete for the med bills or settle for delete.  The thing is that any bad debts within the 7 yr reporting period can be resold over and over again constantly causing new dings to your score.

OK
So I disputed a medical collection that was reporting from 2004, (not hurting my credit much?)
and I recieved a return letter, please call us to discuss this account, and now they are reporting as of jan 2008, I am not sure but I am guessing this has put a good ding in my credit????
