how should I respond???

sent in a dispute, got this letter back from MCM:

Dear (me),

The purpose of this letter is to request your assistance so that we may reach a quick resolution to your dispute.

We are attempting to verify your dispute and it would be helpful to have a copy of any doc you may have that substaniates your dispute.  in the interim, we have req that the 3 major consumer CRA change the status of this account to Disputed.
Please mail or fax cancelled checks, paid letters, police reports to ***-***-****
This is an attempt to collect a debt and any infor will be used for that purpose

How would you experts respond to this?

HELP!!!

Re: how should I respond???

Do NOT send them anything! Or respond to their requests!

The burden of proof lays with them, not you. Let them prove their claims.

"This is an attempt to collect a debt and any infor will be used for that purpose"

That will be used against you to get you to give them your money.

Re: how should I respond???

Don't send them anything.  The burden of proof is on them.  I recently received a letter very similar to yours.  Prior to disputing, i hadn't received anything from a CA on my reports.  In response to the letter I sent them a DV; Im waiting for the RR to come back.

They're trying to trick you into sending them information that they don't have.

I'm sure others will agree with me.

Re: how should I respond???

so I should send them a DV ( which I think stands for Debt Verification???)   Is there a copy of one on here I can use?    I am trying to clean up my credit and this board is the BEST I have seen at giving information that is true and honest.

Re: how should I respond???

Do you know who the OC(original creditor) is? Detail on information might help determine the best course of action is.

If you've not pulled a credit report on this red flag, I'd suggest you do so.

Let's all work on this together. Most of the people here have had problems like this. I've yet to run into a situation here that has not been talked about before. Smiley Happy
