How is it inaccurate?

I think you have to get ahold of the creditor/lender to have it recoded...

Others will chime in soon, if there's more to the story.

About 4 years ago I went to a Best Buy and the sales person said that they were SP my credit just for verfication and to see if I was approved and I questioned *many* times what he was doing and that I felt they were actually doing HPs. I asked for a supervisor...anyway, long story, I ended up from being approved for any service I wanted to not approved without a huge down payment and turns out they ran my credit *12* times! I complained and they did nothing about it. I called the Cellular service providers and they said there was nothing they could do. I actually had to wait the 2 full years before they dropped off. Now I know that I could have probably disputed it through the CRAs, but since I signed and answered the verification questions it was claimed that I agreed to the HPs....what a mess!

So you may just be stuck with the pulls no matter who you contact. I would go to the CRAs directly by calling them and speaking to a supervisor.

Good luck!

It's always nice to have the full picture from the start whenever questions like this get asked.

Short answer is that there's no way to remove a legitimate HP, and if it were done by mistake it about 95% chance of a no. In some instances and you can prove the mistake, the issuing Lender may recode to an SP.  I had one done a couple years ago from my local CU when they performed a double pull for a CLI. I took a while and alot of patience and had to fill out their paperwork.

Back then I was concerned with HP's more than I am now and would fret that I had more than 4, they fall off over time so it's not really that bad. Unless you have an extreme excess. But I've noticed from approvals here, is that most Banks don't seem to worry about HP's too much.

Again unless they're too high and profile deoesn't support it.

But since the average person only applies for a few products a year overall around 6-8, so it shouldn't be all that bad right?

Re: how to remove hard inquires? please help!

A couple of rules of thumb.

A CRA will not address a dispute over a hard pull unless there is an allegation of fraud. In other circumstances you will be directed to contact the entity requesting the hard pull directly.

If there was no permissible purpose you can request the requestor in writing sent CMRR to withdraw the hard pull.  Being dissatisfied with the outcome of a related application does not translate into "no permissible purpose".

If the requestor refuses or does not respond you can file a complaint online with the CFPB.

It can take up to 60 days to get a response to a CFPB complaint and 30 days for a CRA to perform a withdrawal once directed to do so from the entity that originally requested the hard pull.
