Actually, my ex-boyfriend put me on an account of his without my knowing it. He was 30-days late on a payment, which is how I found out the account was on my credit report! Kicker is, the late payment showed up on my report, but doesn't show up on his! He claims he didn't give them my SS#, so he didn't know how it ended up as a joint account. In reality, I think he probably did use my SS#, since my credit is excellent and his isn't. However, I have no proof. Anyways, I disputed that the account wasn't mine, and so far both Experian and Trans Union have sent notices that the account has been deleted. I'll re-pull my reports in a few months and see if they are actually gone. So you can be removed from a joint account if you never actually used the account and were falsely added. However, that may be harder to prove if you were married during the time the account was opened and used.
