i only ask b/c i was advised to opt out in step #1 for the hippa procedure as noted by HappyDays.(still unclear on what the reasoning is behind this) I want to be doing everything I can to cover my butt! So if I opt out, I want to be able to opt back in if later on if i decide I want to.

anytime eh? the link i was given say either 5 years opt-out or permanent. But I guess I can opt back in at any time...

I don't know the exact rule but just remember that even if it is an instant opt out/in, it takes awhile before companies update their files and you are then solicited with card offers.
