I would dispute as 'not mine' on your CBRs as soon as you get the green card back from the DV CMRRR.

Re: library sent me to collection; advised to write investigate and remove letter to CBs

I was sent to the same CA for a lost DVD from the library.  (Make a note, do NOT lose a PBS DVD that is part of a series -- very expensive.)  I paid the Library directly and did not know about trying to get the collection removed.  However it didn't stay on my CR for too long -- a year maybe?

Hope this helps.

EDIT:  I looked at my reports, it began in Sept 04 (checked out in April/May 04), reported paid in March 05, was on my Oct 05 CR but gone by Oct 06.  I know, yuck.  Sorry I couldn't be more help.

well was it removed a year after it was first reported or a year after you paid it? Mine was first reported Nov. 2006 and I paid it in November of 2007. So I'm guessing it won't come off for another 11 months, and I'm trying to gear up to finance a car in the next 6 months. I don't have much time!!!!!!!!!!! Smiley Happy

I don't have CRs other than Oct 2005 and Oct 2006 so I can't say for sure when it was removed.  I'm guessing it was probably March 06, but that's just a guess.  Sorry.

Can you go back to the place where you bought your last car?  I think GMAC would have let me drive off the lot in just about anything based on my last 3 years with them.  The finance guy kept telling me they treat their repeat customers VERY well.

I guess I could go back to the place I bought my current car, but I paid cash for it. I didn't finance there.

Ahh well.  I guess it comes down to want vs need.  Do you NEED a new car or do you just WANT a new car?

If Peas' collection came off early, it was most likely due to something she did or it was a stroke of luck.  I wouldn't count on yours falling off in just two years.  A collection can (and usually does) report for 7.5 years from the date of first delinquency that led to the collection, unless you can get it deleted somehow (like by CRA dispute, DV, PFD, or GW).

ETA:  Reread the posts earlier in this thread by HappyDays and SmartCookie.  They know their stuff, and gave you some good advice.

It was definitely luck!  Smiley Happy  I really had no idea that you could do anything about the negatives on your file except get them corrected if they were wrong.

Whirled Peas, I NEED a new car. Mine has 185,000 miles on it and overheats when I turn on the AC. I spend every free penny I have on the car: water pumps, tires, brakes, it leaks oil... I spend more on it every year in repairs than the car is worth. And yeah, I guess I'll re-read the old advice. I haven't heard back from any CB's about it, so maybe I'll try again in February. Thanks guys.

JJ-
I wish you luck.  I hate the whole cycle -- you need a car, to get to work to make money, to buy a better car, but then you spend money on the old car trying to get to work, to make money, to buy..  well you get the point.  In Indiana it seems we have a lot of deals at the end of March/beginning of April.  Please keep us posted!
