mispelled names and wrong addresses on my credit report

I just noticed on my report I pulled about a few months back shows my name and also known as with different mispelled names of my name on my report. Also I noticed addresses I have never lived at before showing as previous addresses. Could this be affecting my score and if so how do I fix?

Re: mispelled names and wrong addresses on my credit report

I recently had the same situation. I disputed them with all 3 CB and they were deleted from TU and EQ. Another story was with EX as they said they were historical data and refused to budge.

My report listed at least 20 addresses which do not exist or incorrect street names or numbers.

They still deleted some 20 misspelled names after several letters. I did not try for the addresses yet, but I will. It just ticks me off that any body is able to get access to your credit file and that info becomes relevant history.

After that I requested that all three CB place an opt-out notice in my file. TU and EQ did but not EX.
My mail decreased drastically ater that.

Re: mispelled names and wrong addresses on my credit report

Had the same experience with Experian - 23 addresses.

I called and got a CSR who wouldn't bugdge.  Called again and again.  Finally got a CSR that merged all the similar current addresses together and did the same thing with my previous addresses.

Once that was done and I received email confirmations of the changes, I called again and again until I got another good CSR who would give me the specific TL, CA, PR linked to each of the remaining addresses.  Got another couple addresses deleted as there was no longer any accounts linked.  I'm now down to just 4 addresses.

Go to http://www.optoutprescreen.com/ to opt-out of pre-screened offers.
Go to www.donotcall.govt to opt-out of telemarketing calls.

Re: mispelled names and wrong addresses on my credit report

Mine wasn't that bad, but I disputed incorrect addresses and spellings online, and they came off immediately. I did have a second SSN showing (mine off by one digit), and the EX rep fixed that one over the phone.

I didn't think addresses particularly mattered, but when fused got his Discover card, he got a second hard inq, because EX won't keep his correct address, and Disc pulled a TU report to confirm the address. So I think it was worth the time to fix them.

I have what seems to be the world's longest street name, and it gets abbreviated in lots of different ways, so I just cross my fingers and hope that they can expand the abbreviations to figure out what it really is.

Re: mispelled names and wrong addresses on my credit report

This is more important to correct than you may think--especially if you move abroad etc. We had/have a situation with BofA. When we relocated out of the country we used my in-laws address for banking etc...Well lo and behold, when it came time for our new credit cards to be issued we did not realize that the bank had mangled our addresses. They used the street address for my in-laws and the city where we had been living. Needless to say, after several failed attempts BofA stopped trying to send the cards and closed the account. We did not catch it in time because we were 8000 miles away. What was really frustrating was that our bank accounts all had the correct address and we had done the address change for the card etc. in the branch. They were such a pain to deal with I gave up on reopening the account.

The worst part is that the mangled address is still on one of our credit reports and we cannot seem to get it removed. It is clearly a compilation of the two addresses but nobody will help.

Re: mispelled names and wrong addresses on my credit report

I've had this issue, and a LOT.

One of my addy's changed street #'s for the whole 'hood while I lived there, so 2 different #'s, same street.

I have my college address, which had a box #, and then 3 variations on the same address w/no box #. Good luck finding me on that campus.... Smiley Wink

My last apartment has a funky zip code issue where the zip is actually for the next city over, so that's wrong, naturally.

I have one address where the street name varies between the address and what the post office has, so there's #### N Blank St, #### N Blank St NW, #### N NW Blank St, and then more variations on these that may or may not include the apartment number. Oh, and the real address from there, I have the same 1st name as the OWNER of the condo, so we've started getting reporting from each other's credit. Yay.

I've gotten a few wiped off EX via online dispute, EQ says they need ID to change them when I sent 4 forms of ID in the mail with the request, and TU changed my current address... to an INCORRECT address, when I SENT THEM THE CORRECT INFO.

Needless to say, address verification is out the window for a moment. Some people say that if you delete all your old addy's, then you're trying to skip. I say that's not so. I have 3 people JUST IN MY FAMILY with my 1st & last maiden name. Anything I can do to limit confusion with other people, I will certainly do. It's my report, not someone else's.

It's also worth it to note that I have not been able to open bank accounts online, mainly due to this address problem. I've also been turned down for CC's & loans due to verification issues--mainly with the address.

Don't trust your financial institutions to get it right. Send in your correct info to the CRA's manually and dispute all others. It's a pain, but you're saving future denied INQ's and grief.

Re: mispelled names and wrong addresses on my credit report

i was applying for a police officer job, and i had to list all previous adresses.
when i went in for the interview, they kept grilling me about an adress i had never lived at.
i went and checked my credit report, and sure enough, there was the adres they were questioning me about. i never heard of the adress.
i did end up with the job, but it almost cost me.

Re: mispelled names and wrong addresses on my credit report

I just tried to remove 5 incorrect addresses (one of them was my daughter's name as an address) and I was told I could not dispute them, they were addresses reported by creditors.
