nco question

My gf has a progressive insurance balance of 137.00 that nco has contacted her about and a cingular account for 875.00 on her cr that nco has contacted her about as well. I have heard alot of bad stories with nco, how to we go about resolving these accounts. They are both from last year. From reading on here, could we contact the oc first?

Re: nco question

I don't know if this will help you, but here is my experience with NCO (Progressive).  My account with Progressive was much older than yours - scheduled to drop 02/2009.

09/27/07 - sent a PFD letter to Progressive
Response - they couldn't find the account (I think the trouble was that I used the collection account number and they didn't have anything to reference it to)
10/25/07 - sent a PFD letter to NCO
Response - Please be advised that the above-referenced account is closed in our office.  Further inquiry regarding the underlying debt may be directed to Progressive . . .

In addition, please be advised that we have contacted the credit bureaus, with which we do business, with our request to delete our listing of the above-referenced account from your credit profile for the social security number we have listed in our records.  Please be advised that NCO Financial Systems Inc cannot effect a change to how any other company may have listed the above account on your credit profile.
NCO has since deleted all entries from my credit reports.

Based on advise from some of the pros on here - I would first DV both CAs and then move on to PFD letters if the accounts are validated.

Alot of people have had luck sending DV and PFD letters to Mike [Edited].  His contact information is below:

Re: nco question

Speaking of NCO I sent in my Goodwill letter to mike [Edited] and nothing yet. Just sent last week but I read stories where it was almost immediate response or something good happened.

Oh well.

Re: nco question

NCO or someone else, definitely contact the OC first to see if they still own the account.  You might want to discuss with them what they might settle for at the same time.  Say thanks and hang up.

Then send them the PFD for the PIF or settlement amount instead of dealing with CA.

Re: nco question

I see many other posts about this, but they are all locked now. Any way, I want to let all of you know that I emailed mike, and got a reply from lisa in 2 days. I sent her a copy of my CR and will see what happens. I do not remember the account, and it is very old. So I am sure it is SOL or not mine. I will cross my fingers that it comes off.According to the simulator on my mycredit thing, it would raise my pionts 35 by this comming off. SO it is not to late, try it if you canSmiley Happy

Re: nco question

Why is the cell phone bill so high? You may be able to have some of that adjusted by the original company...

Re: nco question

As some others have said, OCs are almost always easier to deal with than CAs. If the debt has been sold outright, of course, the OC is no longer an option.
