need help fixing credit score

Hi .... this is my first time on the site and I wanted help.
first I want to clean up some collections on my credit report, but I don't know if I'am doing everthing right. If I contact a collection company with a letter stating payment in full for the deletion of the account and they turn down my offer. what will they do to my account?

Second, can I  offer extra money so they would want to delete my account?
Can I contact a collection company after I paid them in full to delete an account. Ex: if I paid them two years ago and its still on my CR as paid collection.

Re: need help fixing credit score

Hi decross, welcome!  I am giving you some links that are full of info. you can always refer back to them as they are all on this site.

CRTP and SOL

Before doing anything about past due amounts owed *know your SOL*
   simple SOL

Anything that you paid in the past...late payments or collections...send GW letters!

As to the CA that you mentioned......NEVER talk to a CA everything in writting!!! NEVER sign a DV letter to them  just type your name!!!

Before doing anything with the CA.....what is your SOL?   What caused it...CC, loan???
What is the DOFD or DOLA    (found on your TU and EQ report)

In other words   if the CA is from a CC say Cap1   and Cap1 closed your account & turned you over to a CA (collection agency)   The date you need is DOFD or DOLA

Never pay a CA  without a DV   AND NO you can not offer to pay more to get it removed...thats bribrary!!!

IF you are past SOL you stand a good chance of offering a PFD (paid for delete) for less then  the amount owed. Or PFD for the full amount. This is another reason why SOL is so important!!

Re: need help fixing credit score

I have some utility accounts, home phone, cell phone, and hospital bills up for collections.
SOL is still in affect because the average age is about 2 yrs.
