I am in the process of trying to rebuild and fix my credit, how long, if anyone knows, does it take for accounts that were settled and paid in full to get to the point where it is not hurting me, but just showing as ok? Also, as I pay off other accounts, how can I get that updated as well? Any help would be much needed. Thanks.

Re: new to this

Hi, welcome to the forums! Please start by reading Credit Scoring 101, which is stickied at the top of this page.

Derogatory information will display on your reports for seven years and then fall off, but the hurt fades after varying lengths of time. For instance, a 30-day late starts to fade after one year and is almost negligible after two, a 60-day late starts to fade after two, longer lates and biggies like collections and charge-offs hurt longer than that, and so forth.

Also, if you are still paying on old accounts, you should be doing PFD (pay for delete.) These are also addressed in Credit Scoring 101, and there are sample letters under Frequently Requested Threads, which is also posted above.

What do you have, what are the dates? If you will post the good, the bad, and the ugly, we can give you some tips that should help. Good luck!
