opt out and fraud alert?

i opted out on april 1, and recently began receiving notices from eq, tu, and ex telling me that i'd requested a fraud alert to be put on my files.  i was able to call tu to remove the fraud alert, but can't get a human on the phone with eq.  has anyone had any simar experiences? i just don't want them to sell my info, not put an extended fraud alert on my file.  anyone have any similar experiences?

Re: opt out and fraud alert?

I have a fraud alert on mine that I did not put there. I called EQ and they will not take it off unless I send a letter requesting it be removed. What really irks me about the whole thing is I got 3 alerts about inquiries, which I got dinged for, but the companies were denied access to my CR.

Re: opt out and fraud alert?

I put a 90 FA on all three of my reports in Nov last year. I called EX and TU and they removed them right away, but I had the same bad experience with EQ as guiness. I still haven't written the letter. Also, keep in mind when a 90-day FA is placed, a 6 month opt-out is automatically placed as well.

Ya I have the same thing. Mine was from siputing CMRRR I guess they freaked out lol.

I called EQ and same thing had to send copy of social and drivers license and I faxed to fraud dept and it never came off because they said they didn't receive the drivers license copy. I went back and forth with the lady and then she said you do know it will expire may 03 right and I said no I didn't know that and said whatever let it sit till May 03 then cause I wasn't appin for anything with EQ score anyway

Re: opt out and fraud alert?

Can someone please tell me why you would want a fraud alert or opt out NOT on your report? We disputed DW verizon account because her sister opened the verizon account in DW's name without her knowledge. This put a FA on her CR and we both have opt outs on our CRs. Is this bad? should we work to have them taken off?

Re: opt out and fraud alert?

i don't want a fraud alert on my credit reports, i just don't want them to sell my information, which BTW I know that they have done.  since, after getting a mortgage inquiry (which i just wanted to know what i needed to do to be approved), i've since received 2 new ca letters and incessant phone calls from a ca, despite opting out.  anyways, i know the fraud alert comes with 6 months of opting out, but i want to know, why they placed a fraud alert on my cr.  i just wanted to opt out.

Mine lasts until 2015 and I have no idea why. The lady I spoke too was not exactly polite or helpful. When I asked her about me getting dinged for inquiries, that in essence, did not happen, she was unable to do anything about it. I have one on EX also, that i again did not put there. It was supposed to be for 90 days and expired 4/1 but is still there.

what does opt out mean?

Re: opt out and fraud alert?

It means you do not want prescreen offers from CC and insurance companies or whoever else sends them. You are telling them not to share your personal information with others or for promotional purposes.
