pay for deletion...

I keep hearing everyone talking about collection accounts and "pay for deletion" offeres.  What is this and how do you go about offering this, or how does it work????

 Thanks!

Re: pay for deletion...

In simple terms, you offer to "settle" the collection balance for some amount. As part of the settlement, you get the collection agency/junk debt buyer to completely remove their trade line from your credit report.

Getting the collection agent to completely remove any negative information from your credit report is highly recommended, as it will boost your score. You don't want the collection agency to simply put a "paid in collections" or "settled" note on your credit file. That may actually hurt your score, even though you've paid the debt.

Creditinfo.com has some terrific sample letters in this regard.

Re: pay for deletion...

I went to creditinfo.com and I can't find any letters anywhere.  The site it's taking me to is to help businesses in deciding wether or not to extend credit. And it's for other countries and the US is not listed.  Are you sure thats the correct link?

Re: pay for deletion...

If you already made a settlement with a Collection Company, will it make sense to offer to pay for a deletion?
