"Credit History not old enough"

Hello,

I have been in the United States since February 2007 (that's when I opened my first credit card) so its been 4 years and I still get this : "Credit History is not enough" When I apply a high end card ( I applied once in the last 2 years this december). When will that change to being old enough. What is the date range that is used to determine if your credit history is old enough.

Re: "Credit History not old enough"

Hello , rollerkosh, and welcome to the boards.

Since you have already established credit and have been issued a credit card ,

you are doing fine.  Some of the comments/advice you get  from the credit repoting agencies

is kind of generic. So, take their comments with a grain of salt.

Most of the time, you will find that speaking with a credit issuer wil resolve many limitations you may encounter

by simply eliminating the computer-generated responses and speaking with a real live person.

Don't worry about the computer-generated response   " Credit History not old enough"

Basically, it means nothing. You should have no trouble establishing new  accounts

if you manage your credit accounts wisely.

Good Luck!!

If you received that comment as the result of a credit denial by a creditor, it generally means you have what is considered a thin file.  Generally credit grantors like to see multiple accounts each over several years old with a bare minimum of recently opened or new accounts.   Depending on the creditor, an account can be considered new for up to 2.5 or 3 years.

So, even though you may have one or two credit cards that are 4 years old, if you also have several that are considered new, many creditors, but not all, will shoot you down as having a thin file / insufficient credit history and / or for having recently opened accounts.
