I received a settlement agreement letter from Synchrony Bank on a Care Credit card (not a collection agency) to pay $1195.57 in up to 3 installments and the letter said Synchrony would waive the rest. I This was August 14. I called the number and argued for over 2 hours with a representative who barely spoke English over whether I received a letter, amount I should pay, number of installments and so on. He often changed the amount he wanted to enter the agreement. We finally decided on 2 payments, $597.79 due now and $597.78 due before September 13. I told him I would have the final payment in by September 1st. He tppk a check by phone for the first installment. Several days later I received a letter confirming the agreement and stating that if $597.79 was received by 08/14/2019 and $597.78 was received by 09/13/2019 the balance of the account would be forgiven. I made the second and final payment of $597.78 on August 30. I made sure the correct departments knew I had paid since other than the payments posting, the account still had a balance. I kept being told I would get a letter eventually,, because there was a process. Then In September I got two letters indicating per phone conversation on 08/14 my account my be withdrawn $597.78. I called again, I even got a manager a nd was told to disregard the letters, they were just computer generated, I had nothing to worry about, my accout was paid, I did everything right on my part. Today Synchrony withdrew $597.78 from my bank and won't electronically return it. They are mailing a check in 10 days. One person says a paid settlement shows in 7 days, another says it takes time. Customer Service still tried to collect the balance from me today because no one has reported the agreement or that it has been paid. They did realize they were not authorized to withdraw the funds. I had only authorized one time. Anything I can do? The account got behing when I was hospitalized and I couldn't get payment arrangements set up.
Not quite sure what your specific question is. It sounds like you paid the account off and Synchrony will be refunding the overpayment by check in 10 days. Pretty cut and dried from my past experience.
They weren't authorized to take that payment because the account was already paid. How long before I get a letter showing my account is paid so they quit asking for money or managers tell me to disregard collection letters.
That I can't answer although I would think it would be 7-10 days. I know that's how long its taken me to get a letter in the mail letting me know I've paid an account in full. I feel your pain though - they can take the money out of your account with the quickness when it suites them but for some reason can't seem to reverse the procedure. You get some lame excuse as to why a hard check has to be cut.
