i, years ago, had identity theft. I fixed it all but for the longest time my score wouldn't go above a 651. Couldn't ever get approved for anything. my credit is clean, student loan with some lates two years ago and another 90 days past about 3 months ago. besides that i don't have much. student loans with balances close to the high limit (those thigns never go down).
Couple questions:
1). my score never would go up. I subscribe to equifax score monitoring. suddenly today i got a email saying my score changed. no changes at all just shot up to 748. Which i thought was good. What would cause that?
2) a strong score but yet i still get denied. I have good, veifiable income, stable work history etc but yet can never get approved still. any ideas?

In my case, I made a dent in my student loans by paying way more than the minimum payments.
As for you still getting denied with a 748 score, What The Hell???? I could be wrong, which I usually am, but I would imagine one of the reasons being a "thin credit file" if you've never had any credit/store cards in the past. I'd check out some of those credit card pre-approval sites and see what pops up. With a score like that you should definitely qualify for something decent..
Thanks for your answer. Yes i can't even get approved with at&t because they say they get a no hit from equifax. I subscribe to equifax and get score alerts and unlimited credit reports. my score with them is 747. Is the score equifax gives me the same one a potential lender would have?
i've had previous car loans etc. I just don't understand why i can't get approved. it's very frusterating.
