Re: try this and post up how accurate it is for you

I got 625 - 675.  Actual 638 - 679.  Not bad, although 50 points to play with is a pretty generous range.

ya, but mostly seems to be accurate so far. so if you can guage a range, no need to drop $45 to get scores unless you are apping something for sure.

Re: try this and post up how accurate it is for you

I just tried it again using STBDW's info, and it was off by quite a bit.

Gave a range of 680-730.  Actual 751-765.

I think her SLs threw it off.  Since she has 11 open SL accounts with combined balances of $230K+, I had to answer that she has more than 9 accounts with balances, and the total of her balances are over $20K.

I have a feeling this sim doesn't look on those accounts as kindly as the real FICO model does.

Re: try this and post up how accurate it is for you

Wow...this is awesome.  I just tried it again uing STBDW's info, but pretending she didn't have any SLs, and it gave a range of 715-765.  Much closer.

Does it make sense to assume that the options for each question in the sim represent actual cutoff points for FICO scoring purposes?

So for example, for question 5, "How many of your loans and/or credit cards currently have a balance? a) 0 to 4, b) 5 to 6, c) 7 to 8, d) 9 or more

Could we glean from this that FICO will ding you for 5 accounts with balances, and then again for 7, and then again for 9?

Or am I reading too much into this?

Re: try this and post up how accurate it is for you

Maybe a reasonable way to treat SL's in this sim is to lump them all in one. After all, it really is borrowing money for one purpose. Or maybe count them as one loan for undergrad and one for grad/ professional school. Otherwise, it would be like having 3 mortgages --one for the upstairs, one for the downstairs, one for the garage and land.

I had a lot of fun running the sims three times, each time using the data on a different credit report. So since I have 3 inqs, 2 on EQ, 1 on EX, and 0 on TU, it doesn't make sense to enter 3 inqs, since they only affect the score on the individual reports.

And I LOVE re-running them, taking out my lates one account at a time! VERY motivating to keep the GW's going!

Hey, ducky, thanks for posting this! I had played with the sim back in the day, but I didn't know enough about the real thing to get anything out of it.

I don't know if they have a category to count the absolute number of CC's reporting, but I'll bet you a nickel that the sim is comparing that figure to what you enter for how many open CC's, and get the % reporting.

I finally got my # of total open accounts with balances to 4 out of 8 (this includes the mortgage and student loan) and revolving to 2 out of 6 (this includes the CC's and HELOC.) I got a 14 point jump on TU! sweet.
