vantage scoring model strikes again

recently i expereinced a whopping 75 point drop in my vanatage TU .... i immediately freaked out thought a new negative item had somehow appeared maybe an old collection account reemerged - i immediately ran to pull my report to investigate - the only updates to my report were the removal of my old defaulted student loans and the decrease in my utilizaiton. There was no new negative item added no new lates and my average age has stayed the same .... now i thought maybe i would get a better picture when my fico scores updated but since the drop on vantage my fico score has only gone up . Also usually when one thing happens with one CRB , the others follow. its been over a week now and there has been nothing on EQ and EX and again my TU fico score is slowly growing . At first i freaked out but at this point i fully expect to see my vanatge shoot back up when something triggers a new pull -  i know that you cant rely on vantage scores but to see that huge of a drop and not really understand what is going on behind the scenes ,, it still is a little stressful. this is why having fico is a blessing - you can really see if theres a big problem or if its just vantage trying to trick me . I am greateful credit lending , for the most part, is no longer based on vantage.

edit : also NO new remarks added and all prior disputes have since been concluded for over a month now.

I'd love to learn more about why vantage is so erratic.

I got this gem during rebuilding when I was doing nothing but making improvements to my reports.

"No longer based on vantage scores " when were they ever ???

Other than Synch no major lenders rely on these so no point in trying to figure their algorithm out . Just use it for monitoring.

Re: vantage scoring model strikes again

I find VantageScore to be much more utilization sensitive than FICO 8, so maybe your utilization on a card or two increased?

Re: vantage scoring model strikes again

@calisig nope it decreased 2% did not increase- im not really sure what change triggered the crazy drop maybe vantage is penalizing the fact that i continutally report multiple accounts with a 0 balance ... i really cant put my finger on it after thorough investigation ,  but the good thing is there is no new negative which was my biggest fear when i saw that initially

Re: vantage scoring model strikes again

@GZG its good to know that im not alone in seeing this - ive been cleaning up my report for the past year so i saw that and i thought oh no some unknown collection from years ago appeared or maybe it was an account that wasnt mine that appeared (lukcily that wasnt the case)--- im curious to see what will happen to the vantage score in a a couple weeks, will all the points come back?  but im not going to give it any energy since i know that this seems like a complete and random fluke

Re: vantage scoring model strikes again

Dont know why you would worry over a Vantage score. You've been here long enough to know it really doesnt mean much at all. Out of BK it lagged behind for me up to 35pts avg. Took 6 yrs to finally catch up and now it sits behind by 10pts. Or 720's on CK. Whoopie! From the first card of BK when I came here looking to rebuild. All moves were FICO based. The 3 CRA's came up with Vantage. Need I say more?

Re: vantage scoring model strikes again

I will say that when I disputed an account on DH's report it did the same thing like a month after the dispute seemed to be closed. He lost 96 points on EQ and it took around 3 months or so to rebound to be close to what it was again. I know they don't hold much weight but it is upsetting eitherway.

Re: vantage scoring model strikes again

@Anonymous thanks for the insight - that might be my reason then! because like i said after investigating i saw no change and after a week there still has not been any decline in fico . And i had a couple of disputes wrap up last month - one that resulted in those 8 defaulted student loans to be deleted..  Appreciate you for this!

Re: vantage scoring model strikes again

well the worry was only becuase i assumed a drop as big as that meant that something negative occured - the worry subsidied when i did my due diligience . this was more so just a warning to others plus @RobynJ 's post gives me some great insight !
