Ok. First. Let's do a little research here.  Why 6 months you say?  Simple. Because fico cannot generate a score without 6 months of data.  Missed payment. Ie.... Paying minimum.  Maxing out card. All this will. In their opinion.  Predict future behavior.  Which nothing can truly predict in my opinion. But basically. They want to know if you paid last guy. Will you pay me.  Get it now?

That's a good question.   I think it's because much of the credit score information runs on a 6 month schedule.   As was mentioned, you need 6 months of history to generate a FICO score.   Also, INQs have a diminished effect on score around 6 months out.
