why is this - I can get a 250k mortgage but can't get an Airtran (Juniper) credit card?

I have seen quite a few anecdotes here that you can get a Juniper Bank credit card, or Airtran (which IS Juniper) with a TU score of 601, 620, others...mine are:

EF 604
TU 624
EX 618

I got an "Approve-Eligible" (which means I'm approved) for a mortgage at 95%, 5% down, to purchase a house for $250,000...but can't get a **bleep** mid-grade credit card?

Why?  Smiley Mad  I thought people have gotten approved by Juniper at lower TU scores (and the decline letter confirmed it was in fact TU) than what I have.

Are those FICO or FAKO scores you posted.  If they are from TC or freecreditreport.com they are not true FICO and can be misleading.

No, they're FICO's from the credit report I pulled when I ran my own DU (I am a mortgage broker) to approve myself for a mortgage.

The Carnival card from Juniper seems more friendly for your scores. You should go for that one over the Air Tran one. I was approved for Carnival but denied Air Tran on the same day.

Can you explain that about freecreditreport.com scores not being accurate?  I actually just pulled there yesterday and it said my score (for Experian) was 548 which i actually thought was kind of high for me at this point in time....

Eagles Fan, basically, they're just BS numbers that are not at all based in the reality of what lenders use.  There is a specific scoring matrix used to calculate FICO scores...and freecreditreport.com among others does NOT have access to that matrix, or at least, they CHOOSE not to give it to you.  All those scores are good for (we call them FAKOs) are to tell you if you're going up or down...but not a reliable guide as to where you come in as far as loan approvals.

I agree with Joe. Only true FICO scores closely approximate what lenders use see in credit scores. 90% of all lenders use FICO scores when considering you for credit. But there are variations of the FICO scores you get, depending on the type of credit, eg: auto FICO scores; bankcard scores, etc. Enhanced for a particular industry. Which we as consumers do not have access to.

And you can get the FICO scores with reports right here at myFiCO.

To what purpose FAKO scores serve, continues to baffle me. My FAKO scores run about 30 points higher than my FICO scores.

I know that, but why have others with scores lower than mine been approved by Juniper?

recently due to the struggling economy a lot of credit card companies have started to raise the minimum score required to get a card.  That might be why.....
