401k loan for down payment...

I am reading a 'mortgage 101' type book that says a loan from your 401k, although you have a monthly payment, does NOT count toward your debt/income ratio. I think that I have read on the forum here that it DOES count however. Does anyone have a definitive answer?

The book you are reading is form 1803... Well I dont know how old it is but that will hit your DTI.

Re: 401k loan for down payment...

A 401(k) loan shouldn't show up on your credit report (I never had one appear) but the payments are usually set up to be auto-deducted from your paycheck and will show up there.  Since it is an obligatory payment which must be made each month, you must report it as such.  Consequently, yes, it has an impact to your DTI.
