Does anyone have experience with home equity sharing or investing? Companies like HomeTap, Unlock, Unison, and Point?
These companies offer a percentage of your home equity up front with no payments or interest in return for a larger stake of your home equity down the road. For those with lots of equity in their homes who don't want to take on debt such as a HELOC or home equity loan, equity sharing is an interesting alternative. Most companies also don't require credit scores as high as traditional lenders.
Curious what you think of these companies and their business models? Has anyone had good or bad experiences with them?
I went through Unlock in March of last year. They gave me $85K and recently I checked on what I owe them if I sell or refi and the amount was $112K, so while it seams like a great idea, I wouldn't reccomend going this way.
