How to get a closing date extension?

Hi all.
I'm sure you've seen my rect posts, requests for assistance and posts of thanks. If not, please check out "need help closing by the 20th".

Although I am taking all of the great advice and writing and calling and emailing in order to get deletes re: my old paid off collections, I still want to prepare for the worst. At this point, 'the worst' would be not getting my score up by like the 14 or 15th (they still have to do the appraisal before closingntonnthe 20th, right)?

If that is the case, what are some things I could say as reasons for an extension on closing? I know my attorney would take care of it, but my real estate agent said they would need a legitimate reason to extend, not just that we can't get the loan secured yet. I'd hate for the seller to say no to the extension. Any ideas?

I know my LO said we would be asking for a financial extension.  Realtor said that would work.  HHHMMMM....

It really depends on the market that you're buying in.  If it is soft (as it is most places now), sellers are more likely to give you an extension.  From what I've heard, it is very common right now for buyers to request extensions on their closing due to a variety of reasons.   I've had to request 2 already on my contract but they were due to reasons beyond my control.  If your agent is savvy enough this shouldn't be too much of a problem.
