Adding money to Revolut account using credit cards

I travel abroad several times a year. Withdrawing money from foreign ATMs usually triggers three types of fees - from your bank, an ATM owner and a currency conversion, which often cost a lot. Revolut, a fintech company from the UK, has started their services in the US. Using their debit card, it is possible to avoid those fees because Revolut doesn't charge foreign withdrawal and currency conversion fees. And there are free ATMs around the world.

To use their debit card, I need to add money. They say you can use bank transfer, credit and debit cards. I was watching YouTube videos, and Revolut users in Europe and Japan use their reward credit cards to add money to their Revolut accounts to maximize returns.

Here is my question - has anyone added money to Revolut account using credit cards in the U.S? My fear is using credit cards for this purpose might be considered as "cashing out" by credit card companies and potentially lead to severe penalties including closures.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Adding money to Revolut account using credit cards

I've never used Revolut, but a quick search yielded this:

If you add money to your Revolut account with a credit card or prepaid card, you can only use that balance for shopping (i.e. card spending), but you will not be able to transfer money or withdraw cash from ATMs.

Another option is using either Fidelity or Charles Schwab. Both of those will re-imburse ATM owner fees. Fidelity does it instantly, but may have some limitations for accessing their website from outside of US. Also, I am not sure if Fidelity is very happy if you only use them as a bank, they may prefer you also invest with them a bit. Schwab reimburses at the end of the month I believe, but is more friendly to customers outside of the US.

Just food for thought, hopefully you find something that works well.
