I opened the 5.5% checking account with Affinity last friday. I am trying to test external push/pull ACH times as many say they are instant, and also trying to see which ACH push would count as a direct deposit as I also heard they are pretty lax on this.
Got a little disappointed with the external push/pull ACH times, testing on 3 accounts:
1. Fidelity CMA - Instant push, yay! Instant pull, but did not clear on fidelity's side until 3 days later.
2. Wells - Push arrived 3 days later. Pull, by 3 days has not arrived, but showed on Affinity's side on day 2.
3. Service Credit Union - No push/pulls showing up by 3 days later on either end.
While I'm glad at least fidelity can push instantly, I thought I could do the same with many other FI. I would be interested in hearing which banks/CUs do have instant push/pull ACH with Affinity.
Regarding what may code as direct deposit - I believe anything that has the ACH code in transaction should. However, unlike other FIs I have pushed to, ACH doesn't appear in the transaction line at all. Can anyone tell me if either (or both) of these would be considered a direct deposit?
1. Fidelity: EXT DEP Z(myacct#)1DTPXO - / MONEYLINE
2. Wells: EXT DEP F20THLVYVC - DDA TO DDA
I have a feeling the "DDA TO DDA" is a no go, but not sure if Affinity will also accept. Look forward to any input!
Affinity only requires a $250 ach deposit to maintain the apy in addition to 12 debit card transactions. Doesn't necessarily have to code as a direct deposit.

Thanks, I guess I don't need to worry much about the deposit then! Do you have any experience with banks/CUs and timing of their external transactions with Affinity FCU?
