I've been denied by Affinity a few times over the years.
I will finally be traveling in New Jersey area this week. Would applying in person help approval odds? Or does chex still apply in person even with manual verification?

Chex does apply when you apply in person. It may make a difference as to the reason for your previous denials. If there's a negative, you may need to work at getting it removed. If it's an identity thing, your applying in person would make a difference. If it's a quantity of recent inquiries thing, that goes away after time, probably 3 months or so.
@SouthJamaica 98% sure it's a quantity thing. Guess I'll try again in person and see how it foes5
@Neiltyson My suggestion is to get a copy of your Chex report from here
The report is free. If it is a negative item you can work to fix it. If it is too many new deposit accounts just wait awhile.
There is also this from the doctor of credit
I've opened 10 accounts in the last year (collected $3000 in subs), turned down once for chex. Let me ask, what is affinity offering that's worth crossing the street for, let alone going to new bleeping jersey for?

They have a checking account with a 10% back debit card if you meet a couple requirements (iirc it's DD and like 15 purchases on the card a month). The amount you can get back maxes out at like $15 a month, but still getting paid $15 a month to have a checking account is pretty cool. Alternatively they have a high yield checking account that pays 5.50% on up to $15000 with the same requirements.
They also have a credit card that gives 5% at Amazon (up to $1000 a month) without needing prime, but I've heard recently only orders that are shipped and sold by third parties (rather than Amazon) are qualifying for the 5% back so idk how good it actually is.
Update... I applied in person and GOT ACCEPTED!!
Will wait a bit to apply for credit card
Wish I had time to drive down to Baltimore to try NIH FCU as well. They declined me online because of Chex.
