Anyone know about SSI?

I was just curious as I cant find answers online.  My daughter will be getting approved for SSI anytime (the rep said she will be approved its just the processing time, it was started last september) and I was wondering will it effect my benefits when I retire?  Wife does not work, all SSI information was based off my info and income.  I currently have no other retirement plan so was worried about that.

Was also curious if anyone knows the regular SSI payment?  Trying to get her future figured and a savings setup based off the SSI to help her worry less and know she will be fine.  1 income 2k a month for 4 people (5 with my daughter I get 40% of the year but I dont think she counts) rent is 810, 200 garnishment a month 210 to child support.

Thanks all for any input! Smiley Happy

Re: Anyone know about SSI?

This is all I can direct you to: http://www.ssa.gov/ssi/

I don't believe that a child receiving SSI will affect your benefit amount should the time come for your to start receiving.

This also seems to be a good resource: http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.21/handbook-toc21.html

Hope I've helped some! Just don't know much about this topic.

Re: Anyone know about SSI?

Thanks for the reply Ill go over those pages some Smiley Happy

Yeah the whole process is kind of confusing, you send in huge amounts of paperwork, wait 2 to 3 months and are contacted to verify and update anything missing and then a week later you get aapproved and a check by itself with no other information.  I was kind of hoping for a packet with a break down of everything and all the info =/  Maybe we will get that sometime soon.  Heck I may find it on those sites Smiley Happy

Re: Anyone know about SSI?

SSI is based on state levels, they pay and determine the rate. Has nothing to do with multiple incomes, just her disability. Google payment information for your state, and you will know the payment for 2015.

SSA (retirement) and SSDI (disability for qualified workers) is paid by the Feds, and based on your work recorded. So no easy way to calculate that payment.

Re: Anyone know about SSI?

I'm a caseworker for welfare (SNAP, TANF, Medicaid).  I work with these incomes all the time.  There are 3 main types that come out of the Social Security Administration - SSI, SSDI, and SS.

The max pay for SSI (Supplemental Security Income) in 2014 was $721 per month.  For 2015 it increases to $733.  It's based purely on disability and financial need.    It is reduced by about 1/3 if the individual does not pay housing costs.  Some states also have an SSI Supplement payment for certain situations.

For a disabled adult SSDI (Social Security Disability Income) is based on disability and earnings history.

For a non-disabled adult of retirement age SS (Social Security) is based on age and earnings history.

For a non-disabled child of a disabled or retired parent, SS (Social Security) is based on a disabled or retired parent's earning history.

Re: Anyone know about SSI?

Might be SSDI?  I didnt think minors could get that but I dunno its confusing.

Whatever one we have is based off of my income and my assets according to the social security guy on the phone I gave my info to.

She is a disabled child of a non disabled parent.

I am guessing since she has no housing costs its the reduced amount.  We just got a large packet of paperwork this morning from them but all it was is our original files we sent in and the updated paperwork so its all stuff we filled out, nothing new =/  With it being end of year most places we call for info are closed but I will probably find out late next week or mid next month when she should get another check.

Thanks for the input!
