There are actually several retailers who have the ability to accept Apple Pay. Any POS terminal that accepts contactless payment options will work. CVS isn't a listed retailer but their POS terminals have the capability to accept it.
Sadly, CVS recently disabled the option. Supposedly, they are trying to develop a new technology to compete with Apple Pay. Since they disabled the option, I simply walk 1 additional block to the Walgreens where I can use Apple Pay. Similarly, the only fast food places that I have visted since the launch of Apple Pay is Subway or McDonald's.
I think more and more retailers will be forced to adopt Apple Pay considering the following that Apple has.

The funny thing is the weekend before apple pay was released i went to cvs and used google wallet to pay for something at cvs, and everything went thru fine.
In general this is going to hurt customers in the long run who want to use mobile payments. CVS/Walmart system seems to be really unsecure, and we know from retailers history how well they are at keeping data secure.

I think more people will be willing to adopt Apple Pay over the system WalMart and other retailers are trying to build. From the limited research I have done, Wal*Mart, Best Buy and others hope to cut out the credit card company all together and offer coupons and discounts to encourage people to utilize their system which esentially pulls money from a customers checking account.
In my opinion, this technology is DOA. For many of us credit card holders who live for the rewards/points/perks, I don't beleive this will be a succesful payment platform.
Additionally, as you mentioned - i am more willing to trust a merchant with a credit card vs. my checking account info.
Here is a great article for those who are curious about the technology Wal*Mart and other retailers are trying to develop - http://techcrunch.com/2014/10/25/currentc/
All that the blocking of nfc payments does for me is it makes me not want to shop at those places anymore. Its funny apple of all companies because they are usually the one that do the blocking.

Retailers don't have to "accept" it. Google Wallet and Apple Pay both use NFC technology, so they're interchangable in themselves.

Indeed, but they are "blocking", which is why CVS and Walmart doesn't want them.
Because of the tokenization, everything stays private, and CVS and Walmart want to collect customer data, which is what their system does.

Yeah oh well will have to see how it plays out , but i can shop at walgreens instead of cvs and target instead of walmart, since both are closer to me anyways.

Funny you pointed this out, some mentioned that the app that the likes of CVS want to use would be distributed on Play store and App store. It would be a shame if Apple and Google ..... Blocked the CVS app....![]()

Maybe hype was an exaggeration but there are plenty of articles out there that talk about Apple's mistake in not getting enough retailers onboard ahead of time.
I wouldn't necessarily consider it a mistake. First, Apple Pay is pretty much accepted at any point-of-sale terminal that accepts contactless payment options. This includes vending machines and several other retailers that are not listed as an Apple Pay retailer. Here in Chicago, I have used Apple Pay at Home Depot, Jewel-Osco and a few other retailers.
Lastly, I think with the number of customers who support Apple Pay - retailers will be forced to jump on board. CVS/Rite-Aid made the bold decision to disable the Apple Pay feature. With all of the backlash from customers throwing their support for Walgreens, it will be interesting to see how long they hold out.
