I am considering extending my mobile phone contract and get the iPhone 6 plus and then use Apple Pay. Because it looks that many self check out terminals in Europe ring the alarm bell with chip & signature ..this feature might let me pay discretely as the terminals here are all equipped with this feature. A couple of merchants process my CSP without any verification - no pin and no signature and I know while that is not the safest way to pay I use it quite often as I hate if the alarm goes off for a cashier to come and check my signature ...especially the queue behind likes me for this!
Apple Pay is good and all but Google needs to seriously revamp Wallet too, even if they just make it so that US residents can use it outside the US. (I doubt many banks outside of AmEx will ever issue RFID/NFC cards so that's probably not going to be an option.)
I used it with my debit card in the snack/drink machines at work. That is literally the only place I have seen that takes it thus far. Hoping to adoption rate climbs some so that I can get more use out of it.

I hated it. I put my debit card in and the very next day I got hit with fraudulent activity and had to get a new card. Plus I hate having to keep my phone locked
1. Totally unrelated, just a coincidence.
2. Your phone should be locked at all times anyway for other private info. This is why TouchID is fantastic.

You must not shop much. Look on Apple's website for a partial list or at MasterCard's Contactless Locator.
80-85% of the places I frequent accepts Apple Pay. It's the best. Thank goodness I don't have to use the electronic pen to sign anymore. Those things are riddled with goo. disregard what icyhot said about the debit hack, it had nothing to do with Apple.
No issues here. Don't overlook prior discussions as well.
I think phone is required to be locked (passcode) if you have cards stored in ApplePay.

Where are you located that 80-85% of places accept it? It's gotten better here but I still have to explicitly seek out those places that support it.
