Just a heads up for anyone that has a checking account with BBVA that is getting converted to PNC. I am one of those I only keep about $50 dollars in that account as WAS free. Anyways tried to close it down the other day, but couldnt online nor through agent. Need to fax them I believe information to have it closed to get mailed a check or believe I can get it down to $0 balance and then call and close it that way or at least what the CSR said. Pretty much a PITA.. Anyways with that said.
If you do have an account with them and carry less than $500 dollars starting april 2022 they will charge a $7 a month fee unless you have $500 or have DD of $500 a month into account being PNC. So make sure you either close your account being checking BBVA/PNC if you plan on carrying less than that amount before Apr 2022 as BBVA checking was free or least one account I had was.
Just got this information in the mail today. I am tempted to just transfer $500 into that account, but still not sure.
Just a heads up to anyone to make sure you don't go negative in account without reading all the paperwork like I just did.
Thanks for the info.
I will try to close mine before October.

Wow, what a pain... not to mention PNC seems to be going 'scorched earth' on anything and everything BBVA except for the actual customers. I honestly thought they would have kept some of the more popular BBVA features (ClearPoints card, free checking accounts, etc.) but I guess not. ![]()
For what it's worth, I closed an old BBVA checking account back in 2013 and all I had to do was get the balance to exactly zero and they were able to do the rest over the phone. I know it's been a few years (ha), but my experience matches what you were told and it was actually painless.
I never thought I would be saying this, but RIP BBVA... we hardly knew ye.
I saw that too where they are forcing everyone to the vietial wallet. I have $500 ish in that account but dont want to be forced to keep it there. I will wait until they move me to PNC then stop by the local branch (current pnc Branch) to close.
Thanks for the heads up . Just closed my account yesterday and now trying to become a member with NFCU.

I got the letter recently but didn't read through it that carefully. I'm in Arizona and the BBVA branch was my closest branch. But I'm moving to Nevada by the end of the year and checked and there's no BBVA/PNC branches in Nevada so I plan to stop by the BBVA this month and close the checking & savings accounts. I have both a Clear Points card that will be converted to PNC Points card, and a Rewards card that will be converted to PNC Cash Rewards card. I hate to lose the $7900 CL but I'm tempted to close it the Clear Points; I checked PNC Rewards and redeeming the points works out to less than 1% rewards. The Rewards card converting to PNC Cash Rewards is fine, I'll use it for 4% cashback on gas.
And yeah, unless you're stopping by a branch to close accounts it's best to zero it out by ACH and then call to close it out. I zero'ed out my T-Mobile Money checking accounts in late Aug. to close it, but realized there would be accrued interest and waited until Aug. 31 when .71 cents in interest hit. My electric utility is my go-to for small payments as there's no surcharge for debit/credit and made a $.71 payment w/debit. I waited for to turn to posted instead of pending and called; took 5 minutes to close.
Update: called to close and it was closed 2 days later.
Simple for me as I didn't have money in the account. Only opened for the SUB
