Over 11 years ago, I was caught by two banks check kiting. Although I satisfied the debt and was not prosecuted, I was reported to the various companies like ChexSystems for the kiting and could not open another bank account for five years. The information has since been removed.
One of the banks involved was Fifth Third Bank. I'd now like to open an account to take advantage fo the account opening bonus.
My question is "Is my reputation with Fifth Third Bank ruined forever?" In other words, is there a permanent record of the check kiting with them.
Also, you guys are usually pretty good about this, much better than Reddit, but I don't need a judgment call, please. Yes, I already know what I did was wrong.

I mean probably, they dont have to purge their records like chex does.
only way to know is to apply, try getting a mailer, there's a $600/$5k dd offer in the mailer from the coupon pack things
I don't know the answer for sure, but I would assume yes they keep those records. It is well documented here that credit card companies keep records of being burned long past the 7 years that derogs stay on your credit report, and deny cards based on that. I don't see why the banks would be any different with checking accounts. On the other hand, many issuers will grant cards if you pay off the old debt, so since you didn't actually burn the bank, you might be good.
5/3 is a soft inquiry. There's no harm in pushing it through regardless.
Either they're going to deny you for one reason or another, or they're going to accept you. Being denied by 5/3 isn't the issue you should care about. It's the Chexsystem that you want to be aware about. You should create an account and make sure you are bankable. Some banks care, others don't, but having a good standing account opens the doors to multiple banks, and their welcome offers.
The only way to know is by testing, and/or creating a Chexsystems report to read what it's saying.
Just got back from a 5/3 branch after my account couldn't be open online. I was told I'm blacklisted forever.
@privateone There are banks and credit unions that offer what called second chance checking

That's not my issue. I simply wanted the $600 account opening bonus and possibly if they were better than my current bank to switch banks. I open these accounts to get the bonuses and see if I like banking with them better.
I'm only blacklisted at 5/3 and possibly a credit union whose market I no longer live in. So, only one bank is the problem.

It's in the Valpak. The bank officer kept it when I got up to leave.

Ok. I have no idea what 'Valpak' means.
