Hi Everyone,
I am interested in opening an online savings account. I have read a lot about Barclays Dream savings account I am leaning towards that one ..largely because of the 1.00% APR . Does anyone have any experience with the account? If so, is there a credit check required to obtain the account? Ideally I would like to not have an inquiry on my credit for getting a savings account. I am also interested in knowing about any other online savings accounts anyone may suggest.
Thanks!
You can go here https://www.depositaccounts.com .
You'll find many savings accounts that may meet your needs. I decided it was better to go with a Rewards Checking account over a basic savings account. You'll earn more money on interest verses a savings account.
I was just coming here to look & see if I couldn't find a thread regarding Savings Accounts. Up until recently, there was no point of me looking for a higher yielding savings account...the cents earned off of them, didn't really make it worth it. Now, we're talking $$ difference. Time to start looking. I also had my eye on the Barclay's Dream or possibly Ally.
I recently opened an Alliant FCU savings account, because I was contemplating doing the shared secure installment loan. Then I was looking over their checking products, and they have a decent APY for that even, with $20 atm fee reimbursement. For me this is a no brainer.
Rewards checking is another option, but you may be better off using those required transactions with your credit card. Unless you have a substantial sum of money that stays in the account, and the account doens't have a low maximum balance that earns interest. A lot of reward checking account only count signed transactions, which means you will need to spend over the amount that goes through with no signature. Just do your research.

I have alliant the 1.00% savings and .68% checking seems like a no brainer :-) Also having access to 2%+ 5 year cds is a nice perk.

Ally has a 1% savings, they pull ChexSystems.
There are also 5% savings accounts out there, but up to a certain limit.
Some have lots of monthly requirements, others don't.
One is being nerfed to cap at 1k, from previous 5k.
I use a combination of 3% rewards checking at Lake Michigan Credit Union & 1% savings at Ally.
Rewards checking accounts require some research before selecting one, since they all have some extra requirements that must be met and there is a maximum amount of money on which the bank or credit union will allow you to collect interest. I chose LMCU because it provides the most interest for my situation with no spending requirements (there are transaction requirements, but no minimum amount spent).

Like my alaska USA account, transferring 1.00 per month yields open checking account. Unlike alaska USA, that 1.00 transfer yields the .65% on checking. I now have two high yield checking without a ton of hoops, Alliant for regular, BECU at 4% up to 500 (and savings at 4% up to 500). Between these two, and the flexibility of the shared secured loan with alaska, I am set ATM.
